Beth contacted me three months before their wedding stressed out because at this point she had only picked out her wedding dress and ordered invitations…she didn’t know what she wanted other than a wedding that represented both her family history and her fiance’s culture from India. She was the bride like many who thought she could “do it all” and work her full time career in Boston, Massachusetts as an Family Practitioner. The only information Beth gave me during our intial call was, ” I hate flowers, love the color red and shades similar to red, Jay loves the color blue. Jay’s nickname for me is Red and my nickname for him is Blue.” So that’s what I had to brainstorm with.
About their Day:
Beth and Jay got married on a beautiful, yet FREEZING cold day in November. Yall it was TRULY the COLDEST day we had here in the Golden Isles in 2018. (Yes….w’ere behind on blogging. LOL!) In fact, November was a month of what I constantly referred to as “Hormonal Weather” because one day it was warm and the next was super cold. Cold, but none the less the sun was shinning and the air was crisp and clean.
The Setting:
The ceremony took place in a quite and quaint little secluded gated area. It was the perfect setting already with the Grand Black and Gold gates to go with our overall theme….and their max guest count was 52, which fit so perfectly in the intimate space. The cocktail hour took place on the second floor beside the pool with a lounge area. Honestly, the wind was so crazy, that although we had 100s of candles, they really weren’t staying lit. Originally the reception dinner was supposed to take place outside on the roof top terrace, but due to the change in drastic temperatures and wind speeds at 24 mph we had to use our Plan B. (Hence why you always want to plan in advance for a solid Plan B.
Plan B: Plan B for the reception dinner was held inside on the rooftop with two fireplaces going. It was cozy, intimate and honestly the most perfect setting. We still had the dance floor and lounge grouping outside decked out with barebulb lights, greenery and India influenced rug groupings.
About the Design Concept: A French Baroque Wedding with Indian Influences
Beth’s wedding dress and her gold laser cut wedding invitations were super ornate and formal…so I wanted to make sure the entire wedding was a knod to this. I pulled in French inspired vases for the flowers to add that POP of blue, while the floral shades were all shades of red or pinks. Due to the dated look if you will of the venue, I wanted the tablescapes to look new, vibrant and to play on the already hard and masculine elements of the venue so I pulled in modern white taper candles, miniature gold elephants for an India influence and the white taper candles were placed in clear hurricane to not only protect the linens but to add another modern dimention. I remember submitted these specific designs to our super talented florist and them communicating…” Not sure how all of this visually will come together.” But once the day of the wedding got here, the florist was like, Wow this is one of the prettiest and most unique concepts and IT REALLY WORKS!
My goal as a designer is to always create a unique and customized event, one that isn’t copied, but one that truly tells the couple’s unique story visually. Honestly, although it was tight working within the 3 months during our busy season…this is one of my favorite tablescape designs to date.
