A Travel Guide to Martha’s Vineyard!
Planning a Summer Vacation? I am, and I have the perfect travel guide for you to Martha’s Vineyard. I had the opportunity to travel to Martha’s Vineyard last year to visit some of my clients and for an elopement. If you haven’t traveled to this quaint little place, I highly recommend that you put it on your “To Travel List.”
Yikes…on a side note I’ve been soooo behind blogging and have been meaning to get this blog out way before Summer, but here Summer is slapping me in the face! I promised a couple of months ago, that I would put together a Travel Guide to Martha’s Vineyard for all of you interested in visiting the pretty little town of Martha’s Vineyard. Wedding and Event Season hit me in full force, so I had to put blogging on the back burner for a little.
One of my favorite things to do period is travel. Traveling makes me feel so alive (not that I feel dead or anything, LOL!) but it’s just a breath of fresh “inspiring” air. One thing I’ve learned about myself is that traveling for the designer in me is a MUST! Traveling and experiencing something new, helps my creative brain. I have learned also, that when I have long periods throughout the year when I can’t travel and have been working on alot of design projects, I can feel “creatively shutdown.”
I had always heard of the quaint little place of Martha’s Vineyard and wanted to visit. This past Summer, I booked clients who live in Boston. One of my requirements prior to working with clients is to sit down with them and get to know them, before designing their wedding. Since Martha’s Vineyard was literally kind of up the road, or perhaps I should say across the sea, (not too far, when’ve you already flown several thousand miles) so, why not travel a little further, right?!
Where to Stay:
I ended up staying at the cutest little hotel within walking distance from where the yatchs pulled in. Honestly, really all of downtown and what I am referring to as “the main drag” on the little island of Martha’s Vineyard isn’t too far away…it’s so close, at the end of my trip, I even walked back from the hotel back to the Ferry, since I knew my way around pretty good.
The hotel that I ended up staying at, was called Sumer Camp. I’ll have to say, I’m kind of a hotel snob for sure! Some of my requirements when staying at a hotel include, all white sheets, typically modern and clean interior spaces, and or at least inspiring interior spaces, a great snack bar and in close proximity to coffee and or on onsite restaurant. Do you have any prerequisites?
Where to Eat:
Maybe the better question is what to eat! I ate lobster, I think every meal every day, except for breakfast..but I’m pretty sure if someone was cooking up lobster for breakfast, I would have eaten it then too! Two of my favorite restaurants for very different reasons in Martha’s Vineyard were: Lookout Tavern and Nancys. Both restaurants had a view, of the ocean, but I’ll have to say Nancy’s view was my favorite! Nancy’s restaurant offers a rooftop view of the yachts coming in. I ordered a lobster salad at Nancys and lobster tacos at the Lookout Tavern.
What To Do:
Unfortunately I was up for work and pleasure…I had an elopement on the island. I didn’t get to spend as many days as I would have liked to. While I visited Martha’s Vineyard however, I did get a chance to visit The East Chop Lighthouse, as this is where the Elopement took place. There are four other lighthouses that are just as pretty, if light houses are your thing.
Don’t forget to check the ferry schedule if your heading to Martha’s Vineyard. Due to travel times, we barely made it because it’s a little jolt from Boston to MV. And if you head that way, Eat some lobster for me!
