This happened this past weekend, a project I’ve been praying about for quite some time. Restoring my family’s one-hundred year old farmhouse. No, I’m not changing careers or anything like that (unless God wants me to of course)…just working on a side project in between my wonderful wedding clients to build memories with my family, and I thought it would be fun to share this with you, my friends!
Yes, we’ve still been a little slower on Social Media these days, but I just have felt God has been telling me to take this time to be a little slower, more present, and to just dream, and dream big! I was reminded of this today when I caught up with my bestie from Cali, thank you Anna! Love you for always speaking truth and reminding me that God puts in seasons for a reason.
A couple months back I had been begging my dad to let my hubby and I in to see the house after someone who had been renting it for quite sometime, finally moved out. I was curious to see what condition it was in, I guess I kind of had a feeling. Destroyed was an understatement at how they left our farmhouse, I honestly was in utter disbelief. I can’t believe people treat other people’s property in such a manner… just to paint a picture, clothing was strung everywhere, food left in the cabinets, honestly to sum it up it looked as if the place had been robbed and abandoned and the smell was so bad we even had to wear face masks.
My families’ little farmhouse is over a hundred years old, that means it qualifies for, The Centennial Program, and yes I’m kinda of proud of that! It feels like such a milestone, so many stories to be told, and memories made dating back from generation to generation. Not only does it have unique features like the diamond cutout shutters, my father made for my grandparents over 50 years ago, but alot of my childhood memories made here, some include Christmases in the formal dining room with “fire engine” red carpet (my grandmother’s favorite color) I definitely didn’t inherit that color trait. Or like the time me and my sister climbed up on a hay-bale to watch the cows move through the pasture, and before I knew it I was covered in fire ants…my mother “jerked” me down off of the hay-bale so fast to throw me in a sink, I wasn’t sure what had happened to me, other than I was remotely embarrassed after having taken a bath in the kitchen sink in front of my entire family. LOL! And the list goes on….
As a designer, I constantly search for things to inspire me, within the wedding industry. I’m a firm believer and have seen it trigger the wheels in my brain when I’m working on one project from a completely different avenue that inspires me in the wedding industry. I love combining things I’ve seen and worked with in other mediums. Combining both of my careers Interior Design and Event Design sets me apart for sure. I used to question how these work together, but now see how they have intertwined and really helped me to elevate my clients overall design concept and create a one-one a kind design. I love the fact, that I have the ability to work with other clients on creative spaces and I love seeing how these translate into other areas within my career.
One thing is for sure, being a designer, it’s inevitable that we must constantly have things that provoke new creativitiy and inspire us!
I’m excited to share both my career and my hobby with you on my blog! In the meantime, I’m trying to come up with a name for this little white house, so you can follow along to see our progress! I’d love to know your thoughts! The winner of the hashtag, will receive a special gift in the mail!
On a side note, the picture below is of our Pecan Trees! It’s such a peaceful view, there are rows and rows of pecan trees. This is where my hubby gets his local pecans from, just in case you were wondering!
