Okay, so anyone throwing together a last minute Halloween get together?! I’ve been rushing around all week, like a mad women and seems like I can’t for the life of me finish my to do list. My sweet husband ended up volunteering me for another event (insert emoji cray face) and so here I am an Event Designer throwing together my own designs at the last minute. (really, though..that’s how it goes)
I remember once my UGA professor, Becky Gill said, “A designer’s home is never fully finished.” It’s true, we’re always designing for other events and people and by the time we get home are exhausted and just want to kick back.
However, I love decorating for all seasons…and was bound and determined that the first Saturday I had off in a while I was going to “sling” it together (as we say in the south) and create something timeless, quick, inexpensive, and beautiful!
My concept, Simplicity is Key. I “kind of” have this thing for Monochromatic Color Schemes…it’s just so timeless.
Let’s start with some basic elements on Designing an Elegant, Monochromatic (with a spooky twist) Halloween Tablescape.
Always create a fun entry way, emphasizing your theme by your decor. Be sure to add some cute signage like this cute felt scare crow sign I found at TJ Maxx! (PS, Ziggy, our furbaby had to get in on the action as always..LOL!)
China – Select china, that goes with your style or current them. This is my everyday china by Mikasa. No need to run out and purchase another set if you ask me that’s just going to sit in the upper cabinets or pantry until next year.
Chargers – A charger is used to elevate your over-all look, add a pop of color or texture and really can take your party or event to the next level. I chose these beautiful patterned chargers from Pier 1. There very versatile and some I can and will use over and over again.
Linens – I chose to go with a bare table and opt out for linen, since I wanted to go for a more clean approach. I did opt for a printed black and white linen napkin from my sweet and talented friend from Dot and Army. She has an array of custom hand crafted linen napkins that are sure to add an extra special touch to your table.
Place Card Setting– Typically this is used to denote, who is sitting where, but seriously, for a more informal approach, like I am going with, you don’t have to put names, just add an element that ties back to your theme. For me, I did white chocolate covered poisonous apples.
To tie your entire house together for the perfect party or event, it’s import to stage and style to carry over your concept! This little white chair sits in my kitchen right next to our little table that I’m designing. I thought it would be the perfect place to stack a set of pumpkin, add some spanish moss and use my little spider garland. It reemphasizes the monochromatic, yet simple decor of my Spooky Halloween party…it also fills in some dead space which otherwise would have looked a little bare.
Tips for Staging + Styling: I like to use what I call the 1 – 3 ratio. 🙂 Odd numbers always look better than even numbers.
This is like a must-have rule for me! Add something to your plates, it just makes your guest feel that much more special if you ask me.
What you’ll need:
Green apples
White Almond Bark Chocolate (or any kind, but almond bark taste better if you ask me)
Microwave or Stove
Cut small Branches from the yard
Spanish Moss (from the store) Please do not use any that’s in your yard. (Eeeek you’ll have red bug infestation)
Flies (push pins from TJ Maxx)
Directions:
Stick stem into apple at least halfway. Be sure to use a pretty sturdy stick.
Next, melt your chocolate in the microwave or ontop of your stove (quicker = key if you ask me)
Take your apple and dip it into the white chocolate, sit on parchment paper to dry.
Once it dries, add your push pen fly. Viola!
Cheers to a happy + safe and keeping it simple halloween!
XO, Emily
