A Low Country Wedding with Mid-Century Modern vibes in St. Simons Island, Georgia at Musgrove Retreat. Before I jump into the design concept fully, let me share an inspirational picture that inspired their entire day. It’s a little Parisian cafe full of life let me just say, all the textures and lush greenery. But first, you have to hear how Seth proposed, it’s sweet, yet filled with such a rush of adrenaline.
How Alyssa + Seth Met:
Alyssa and Seth met through two mutual friends, who are also now married. For Seth, it was his best childhood friend from Athens, Wayne Satterfield. For Alyssa, it was a then-coworker from our time in Governor Deal’s Office at the Capitol and good friend Kat Bakhaus (now Satterfield – she was also a bridesmaid of mine). Wayne and Kat had us over for a Christmas party. Seth and I didn’t speak to one another, but we clearly wanted to and ended up asking about each other after the party. We reconnected soon after, and then Kat and Wayne ended up having a New Year’s party that year to ring in 2017. Seth kissed me at Midnight and the rest was history!
A little about their Proposal:
Alyssa and Seth had both always wanted to go skydiving but had never found the time. Randomly one day Seth said he found a skydiving package on Groupon, so they decided to go. They drove up to Skydive Georgia in Cedartown, Georgia and little did Alyssa know… that Seth had the custom-made ring in his pocket. Seth had been planning this day for some time. By the time it was actually Alyssa + Seth’s turn to go up in the airplane, Alyssa said, “I think I blacked out the rest of the afternoon from sheer adrenaline- ha!” Seth went first, met one of the employees on the ground to hand off the ring, then he stood there in the field while Alyssa landed. Alyssa said, she barely had a chance to stand up before he got down on one knee and proposed. Alyssa said, ” She was 100% shocked and had no idea what was happening. Alyssa + Seth’s instructors captured the entire thing on their GoPros. Following the excursion, Seth had organized for both of their families to be in town waiting for them at Seth’s brother’s house for a cocktail hour. We popped celebratory Dom Perignon that my brother brought as a gift and then went on to a private dinner at Iberian Pig in Buckhead (which Seth also organized). Afterward, they went out to celebrate their engagement with friends.”
About the Design Concept:
Alyssa texted me a little Parisian Cafe (the very first picture posted in this blog) that she was visually in love with. It had a variety of rich woods, mid-century modern influenced chairs, and different shades of greens that ranging from teal to forrest greens, and gray greens. Throughout the cafe the patterned two toned dance floor inspired me to create a prominent and dramatic oversized two toned dance floor that was a prominent feature. I loved all of the woven greens in the cafe and carried this over through the tent by covering up the light fixtures, and anchoring the entire tent design with a low country inspired tree. I chose different green shades that were in close proximity on the color wheel, such as green velvet linens on the tables and a fun brighter green velvet that was centrally located in front of the dance floor. Luxury black accents were used throughout the custom signage, menus, a dance floor prop furniture piece, and the elegant long black taper candles that adorned the beautiful table tops.
How we tweaked the wedding During the Peak of Covid-19.
Alyssa and Seth’s wedding was originally scheduled for April of 2020, but was rescheduled for August of 2020 due to the couple’s comfort level with the rising Covid numbers of Covid in our area. Although their event was entirely outside, they still preferred to move the date .
Congrats to these two beautiful souls! I hope you enjoyed the inspiration behind their wedding day design. We are always so appreciate to our clients who trust us during such a special time in their lives.
