Whew! So officially wedding season has begun. For me, that means being strategic about my snacks! Not just with weddings but with my business in general.
Why? Well, because with Leaky gut + IBS you can’t just eat anything, or you are down on your back for the next couple of days…and I seriously can’t afford that. And you DON’T want to be caught in a bind and get “HANGRY” because you will also suffer the next couple of days.
T R U S T M E….it’s happened to me 1 time and I promised myself I would never let it happen again.
See my business is constantly changing and I was recently designing a Cabin a little north of here, in fact about 2 and a half hours from here. I thought I was only going to be gone for a little bit, so I ate a huge breakfast to hold me over.
No Bueno…I was gone all day, the cabin was literally in “East Bumble” or nowhere on the map to say the least. I missed lunch, and barely had any water while I was out there. Town was hours away…so it’s not like I could just leave and I totally didn’t want to be rude to my clients. So what did I do…I waited until the end of the day, and then was light-headed and ravaging…
My body was already letting me know I had over done it.
So, the question I get asked all of the time, is what do you eat while traveling. Well, here’s my go to little grabbers. I literally shove these in my flip up compartment in the back of my car to have some at all times and then the things that would spoil….I put these in my to go cooler.
Please note: I DO NOT eat these all of the time. They are just meant for when you are in a bind and for emergency items only! There better than junk food, but REALLY your body needs living food when you are healing (I’ll get to this in another blog too)
1 + 2.Justin’s or Wildfriend’s Nut Butter: This is my favorite on the go snack paired with bananas or apples. It’s very low in sugar and if you are having a chocolate or sweet crazing it really hits the spot. Be careful if you are having allergies related to any kind of nuts though, you’ll want to leave this off of your “On the Go snacks” for now at least.
3. Bananas: If bananas aren’t already your BFF, they will be come yours. In fact several different varieties. I’ll get into this in a later blog!
4. The New Primal: Okay, okay, yes most of my friends now that I just don’t eat beef it’s true. I don’t like it, and it grosses me out. Well, that’s had to change for my snack regime. I do carry this on me at all times just in case I get in a bind and my blood sugar bottoms out…I’ve learned health is more important than me getting grossed out. So I just chew it like bubble gum and think happy thoughts.
5. Dark Chocolate Coconut Chips: Once again, if you are having a strong craving this is absolutely the best thing you could eat. Coconut in all aspects are so good for you. And well we all get those cravings from time to time, so this will help in that area tremendously. Just remember don’t over do it on sugar…this will still cause major bloating and gas in the first couple of months through your on-going healing process. I try to keep my sugar count at 15 grams and under.
6. Guacamole : I seriously eat this by the truck loads! I like it pre-diagnosis and I love it even more during. It makes me feel like I’m cheating…when I’m not. I’m getting in my healthy fats and this TASTES AH-MAZING on Plantain Chips
7. Paleo Wraps: Say hello to your new bread or flour burrito. While everyone else is killing their guts with harsh bleached flours, you’ll be on the road to healing yours…and this has like 0 carbs. I make all kinds of goodies with these…once again I’ll show you in another post!
8. Apple Chips: I love smearing these with some of the nut butters or just eating them plain. Just be sure you get organic and Non-gmo. You typically can’t find these in stores, so that’s why I have provided a direct link if you click on the blue words. You can buy in bulk and in the long run it saves you tons of money!
9. Plantain Chips: These are great when your having a “potato chip” melt down! There really great and so good for you. Plantains are higher in B-vitamins and Magnesium than regular banans. I’ll show you what all I do with these babies in a later blog post as well.
10. Regular Coconut Chips : These without the chocolate are amazing. I love the texture and it’s just nice to be able to chew on something everyone in a while watching a movie while your friends and family are throwing pop corn in their mouths left and right.
The struggle and challenge is REAL, I know. But don’t do what I did and get in a bind without having anything. Your body will pay for it for days.
Pack your bags and car ahead of time, trust me your body will sooooo thank you for it!
I hope this helps you on your journey to feeling better!
