July 4, 2015
Happy 4th Everyone! I love this holiday, not only is this one of the only times I get to “shut down” and spend time with my family, it’s a time to Celebrate America.
Do you know the real reason why we Celebrate the 4th of July?!
Imagine for a moment what it might be like to always have someone else telling you what to do, where and how to live, and especially what to wear? How would that make you feel?
I thank God every day we have the freedom to make our own choices.
Yes, I’m patriotic….but I didn’t want to use the typical Red, White and Blue colors, I tweaked it just a bit to put more of a modern spin on our family party! I chose gold, light pale blue, white and brought the red in with my mocktail- cocktail and other food items.
So most of you that know me, I’m a little fanactic about getting in my fruits + veggies in. I wanted to take a different and more healthy approach this 4th of July with some fun, yet kid friendly, paleo and gluten recipes…everyone could enjoy. I myself try to eat gluten free 99.9 % of the time… yes I have an allergy and yes I feel better when I maintain a gluten free diet. Everyone one struggles with something these days it seems like, so trying to please an entire crowd can be a little tricky at times.
The perfect party…It’s all in the details!
Signage ( I stuck this directly to my wall, and thank goodness it comes off easily.)

Party Favors for your Guest

Organic Chicken Sliders on Gluten Free Buns
Water berry Mint Cooler
Spiced Sweet Potato Fries (paleo friendly) : I made food cones
Banana Split on a Stick
What You’ll Need:
Bananas
Cool whip in a Can
White Chocolate
Sprinkles of your Choice
Fresh Cherries
Directions: Melt your chocolate, I used Wilson’s from Michaels…it takes 1 minute in the microwave to melt. Next, dip your bite sized bananas in the chocolate. Sprinkle with colored sprinkles. Place on a plate, top with whip cream. I used a sucker stick to hold my cherry in place. This south Georgia heat + coolwhip doesn’t make a good combo for the cherry to stay on top.
What you’ll Need:
1 small watermelon
1 Pint Strawberries
1 sprig of mint
Juicer
2 limes
Golden Star Sticker (Place on outside of glassware as décor)
Directions: First, take the watermelon rind and skin off of the lime and the watermelon. Next, place all fruit in juicer. Pour in glass. Finely chop mint and mix in your drink glass. Lastly, for garnish, I used a star cookie cutter to cut this out of a piece of sliced watermelon. For those of you who want to kick it up a little, you can always add wine with a fruit base.
What you’ll Need:
Meat of your choice: I used organic ground chicken
Buns of your choice: I used Udis Gluten Free Bread
Star Cookie Cutter
Grape Tomatoes
Toothpick
Directions: Fix as you normally would regular size hamburgers, using your choice of meat. Next just cut your buns with the star cookie cutter. I used a toothpick to hold all items together and garnished with a grape tomato for color.
Items Purchased:
*All decor items were purchased at Michaels, minus the food, and glassware unless otherwise noted.*
Glassware + Gold Mirrors: TJ Maxx
Once again, I purchased these cute little silver glitter Chinese style containers at Michaels, popped pop corn and added Blue and Red M & M’s. I must say my nephew loved it.
So for me planning a party, isn’t about stressing or spending loads of money…it’s about time spent with your loved ones…and in a stylish way I might add. In fact, the sweet potato fries were from our local natural market in the frozen section, so it was as easy as ripping the bag open, dialing the oven to 425, and now, almost time to enjoy all of these festivities.
