Sometimes we need a little reminder in our Career of the “Why” we do what we do. This week, Savannah and Andrew, some of my past clients, now dear friends, were my reminder.
Not to be “Negative Nancy” or anything, but our world has become such this negative space…from the media to a “me, me, me, society” so much so sometimes we forget to give God the Glory and remember why we are serving in the area we are.
Trust me, I’m guilty. (But that’s for another blog post another day.)
I want to share this little story with you, hopefully to give you courage and strength and most of ALL hope!
Over a year ago, I had the most wonderful intern working for me, someone I literally “clicked” with and felt like they were my “sister from another mister” her name was Savannah. When you think of Savannah, think Southern, sweet as sugar (literally), great cook, such a heart of gold, woman of faith, and let me tell you devoted to her boyfriend at the time, Andrew Taylor. Her original plans were to be a chef, while I wanted to keep her as my intern (I’m pretty sure I almost had her talked into it), but little did we know God would quickly change that.
I always told her my home was hers home away from home! I remember late one night getting a call, a call you never want to have, she asked if she could come over, and so she did. It was a call that landed you right on the sofa in your PJ’s with a bag of chocolate and a box of Kleenex kind of night.
Savannah begin to tell me of a very long story of how Andrew her boyfriend had been sick, and the doctors couldn’t figure out what was wrong with him, (long story short). The Doctors sent him to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta where he was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Savannah and I cried and of coursed asked why so many times, but being believers in God we kept encouraging each other God had a plan.
Little did we know, Savannah quickly made the decision to move back to Carrolton, Georgia to take care of Andrew. They immediately got engaged. I could tell from the start how much Savannah loved and was devoted to Andrew, she already reminded me of the Proverbs 31 women. We stayed in touch, and she would communciate from time to time she wasn’t sure of the prognosis, but they did know something early on, life was too short, so with the grant of a wish from Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, they granted Andrew 1 wish, that wish was to marry his high-school sweetheart Savannah. That’s when I got the call. I was so delighted to be yet another part of this journey and witness this next step in there lives.
Again through the process and even after the wedding Savannah communicated about her uncertainty of of being able to have a child. She was devastated and this was another long phone conversation…not to go into to many details, but they had to talk about extraction, freezing eggs, even prior to getting married.
This verse comes to mind.
Wow, What a blessing this Valentines, some of the best news I’ve heard in a while, Baby Taylor is Due this October 2017!
I’ve learned in life, that people are put in our lives for a reason to show us hope, to show us endurance, to show us the representation of true love and dedication. This young couple is an act of selfless and devoted love. There love is a true representation of the love it talks about in the bible, how Christ loved the church.
I’m so proud to know these two, to have served them by planning + designing their wedding and I can’t wait for this next journey in their life.
For those of you who donated to this couple for their wedding, we were all so very appreciative.
I know it’s a day late, but this to me is the best Valentines Day gift ever!
To me, this is God’s little reminder, that He is greater than All of our problems.
