Call me a naturalist or a minimalist..both define my style and what I gravitate towards.
Let’s talk about being realistic around the holidays. To me being realistic around the holidays means a couple of things.
This thanksgiving I had a pleather of pumpkins from Halloween (as probably seen in my previous blog post) that I carried over to Thanksgiving! Why not, right?! Because your probably just going to throw them away after the season comes to an end…unless your like Martha and are going to whip up a pumpkin pie or something of the sorts.
To add to my pumpkins, I had pheasant feathers, bundles of wheat, mini indian corn (you can find mini Indian corn at the grocery store for under $5.00 for a bunch of 5) cotton, and guinea feathers (that my sweet mother-in-law collected for me from their farm), grapevine (had this in stock and used it for my Halloween Tablescape)
CENTERPIECE
I used a mixture of all of these to create a lovely texture for my centerpiece.
Next, I want to show you how with the same plates, and making just one simple change it can completely change your look. So I used my favorite all time offwhite mustard trimmed linens from Dot & Army and created Five different looks. Their simple, festive, eatable and or reusable place settings.
PLACE SETTINGS
Play around with your place settings…just because you may only have 1 set of dishes doesn’t mean your stuck to one look.
Idea 1: About that base
Use a charger or create your on like I did by adding grapevine, pheasant feathers. You can also add forged greenery that you spray paint gold from your yard. A gold can of spray paint trust me…goes a Loooong way. (LOL!)
Idea 2: Napkin Folds
Play with your napkin shapes and folds. I tend to like simple plain folds….just my style, but I’ve shown you below in a black and white monochromatic pattern how unfolding your linen napkin and making it into a square can add more of a color or pattern pop. So get creative.
Below I’ve even rolled these napkins up, put twine around them to create a little fun bundle of a sort.
Idea 3: Not enough
You don’t have enough of one thing! That’s totally fine, mix it up! Don’t be sacred. After all when the Pilgrims had their first meal, don’t you think it was a collaborative experience?!
Most of all, my philosophy the older I get. Don’t stress, do easy, do simple…most of all just do you!!!!
I hope these tips were helpful and I hope you enjoyed My Natural Modern Thanksgiving!
Wishing each of you a Happy and safe Thanksgiving!
