Let me preface this story by saying, Savannah and I met over a year ago through my companies internship program with The Coastal College of Georgia.
I had been diligently praying for an Awesome Assistant and low – behold…my “Mini Me” as I call her shows up. Have you ever met a person that you just instantly clicked with and it was as if they had been in your life forever?! Yep, this is Savannah! We had literally planned out her Career with me and how her and Andrew would move down and on and on, until one day both of our what seemed to be perfect plans came to a complete stop with tears, confusion and the questions we all have in life…why? I’ll let Savannah share her story.
“Our Story is a little bit of a funny one, and the moral of our story would have to be, “Mama knows best.” My mom was teaching at Andrews school a couple of years ago, and she was always trying to tell me about a guy that I needed to me that she taught in one of her classes. Of course I brushed her off when trying to introduce me to this “sweet” guy because we all know to run when mom describes this type of guy. So, as the school year continued on..”
A special thanks to social media (Facebook in particular), Andrew sent Savannah a message that read, “Hey, I think your mom used to be my teacher.” I know, I know. It wasn’t anything special, but I definitely got a huge laugh from the thoughts of all those times my mom had mentioned “this guy.”
Four years later, Savannah and Andrew’s relationship is stronger than ever! There relationship has been a little different than the typical “dating relationship and young love… stories..”
Cancer isn’t something you think will ever happen to you or someone you love. Cancer doesn’t care how old you are or what your orginal life plans were. Right before Andrew’s birthday he was diagnosed with Aggressive B-cell lymphoma. They had no idea what they were up against, and of course didn’t know how difficult the road would be, but what they did know was that they would fight this together.
After months of in-patient chemo, he was declared cancer-free and currently is still considered in remission.
Savannah and Andrew wenT from dinner and movie dates to hospital date nights over cafeteria food.
“I never could have imagined that something so bad, would have brought good into our lives, but that good… was that it brought us closer together…closer than we ever thought was possible.
Andrew got ONLY one wish, and his wish was to marry Savannah! So, on July 13th Andrew proposed to Savannah while they were at Stone Mountain, and they’ve been trying to plan there wedding ever since!
“We’re thankful that our entire story doesn’t revolve around his diagnosis, and we know that there is life after remission. We serve a big God, and we’re thankful that He sees the big picture when we can only see a small part.” says Savannah.
I couldn’t agree more with her statement! We underestimate the power of our Creator!
We are so excited to see this next chapter and help them celebrate, life, love, healing and much happiness!
On another note, since Make-A- Wish is a foundation that relies on donations, we are trying to help them raise money for their wedding day.
If you would like to donate any money to help make their dream wedding come true, please contact us direct at: admin@emilyburtondesigns.com and title your email: Make-A-Wish.
