I know it’s after Christmas and all, but, how exciting would it be to walk into a new HGTV Dream home in 2017, located on St. Simons Island, Georgia…one that was fully remolded with top-notch home decorations and the latest home trends, an incredible view, an absolutely No mortgage payment?! Not to mention, on top of the new house, winning two-hundred fifty thousand dollars A N D a new honda pilot, dreams come true, right?!
I had the opportunity to meet with the talented designer behind this beauty, Brian Flynn, in a one on one walkthrough, right before the holidays…and I’m sharing the full details with, and taking you on a tour behind the scenes if you will…. AND throughout my blog you can find out just how you can register to WIN all of these amazing things!
I was so excited, to run across an exclusive invitation to tour HGTV’s dream home for 2017. It’s located literally like right in my back yard, well, maybe not exactly in my backyard, right up the road…but that’s close enough, right?!
I’m a designer through and through, have always been and will always be…in fact my first career out of collage was designing both Commercial and Residential Facilities in Atlanta. I still use all elements of design, to inspire me and my designs today! There’s alot of parallels in both professions you know!
Brian Patrick Flynn is an American TV producer turned interior designer. What I also learned about Brian in our one on one, was how small the world really was, yet again. He used to work with my dear friend, and someone I recently had the privilege of working with and for, David Tutera. The first interior design job Brian did, was for one of his mother’s friends. He said, ” I barely made three-hundred dollars off of that job!” LOL! I feel the same about my first couple of jobs…but I think that just proves that we really do love what we do!
What area is more quaint than St. Simons?! Let me paint the picture, spanish moss swooping out of old Oak trees, thick blade St. Augustine grass, and a beach within steps away to sink your toes into.
Welcome Home!!! Actually, yes, you could totally be saying this!
Don’t miss out, the official entry period for the HGTV Dream Home Giveaway 2017 will start, TOMORROW, Wednesday, December 28, 2016 through Friday, February 17, 2017 on HGTV.com. Eligible U.S. residents can log on to HGTV.com for full details and the official rules.
But, for now, here’s a glimpse at the beautiful coastal home, remodeled by Architect Michael Stauffer.!
As soon as you stepped foot into this beautifully remodeled HGTV home, pecky cypress ceilings hit you in the face and create the most dynamic focal point throughout this open floor plan. The pecky cypress ceiling was complimented by an oversized wooden beaded light fixture that dropped down in the foyer, and help to cross coordinate the natural wood throughout.
Hints of the outdoors with muted earth tone color palettes were Brian’s focus! The colors incorporated throughout the foyer, living room and kitchen was comprised of natural greens, shades of brown, as well as hints of coastal hues, in the artwork, accessories and paint gave way to it’s coastal setting.
The hand painted artwork was designed by Celery Jones….and my photog friend, that took my beautiful blog images was obsessed with the modern traditional pop-art lady with the green bandana. She said, she had an instant connection, because it reminded her of her Latino heritage. That’s what artwork is all about! An instant connection, whether it be because you love the piece or it serves as a reminder of something you loved or was connected to in your past.
It was great to hear how, Interior Designer, Brian Patrick Flynn got his start! His first job as an Interior Designer was getting contracted out by his mother’s friend…he said, “I barely made three-hundred dollars.”
Brian, says he loves to design every room with a different theme in mind. For example, the “mixed pattern plaid room” was inspired by Sea Island’s men’s lounge and the men that like to hang out there. He often pictures himself and his friends, “hanging out” in an “all men’s room,” and that’s exactly what he designed, a room that reflected masculinity with with ivy league vibes.
I was so obsessed with he dining room ceiling, it had the same pecky cypress ceiling treatment as the living room, but a dark wood stain had been added to create a more formal ambiance.
I was instantly drawn to this horse artwork, which come to find out, is a picture of Brian’s friend’s horse that lives not to far from his getaway house in Iceland. It was so dreamy, just like the snow horses you see in the Christmas movies. This artwork lead you into the Master Suite area.
The Master Suite, over looked the outdoors that encompassed a picturesque view that looked to be straight out of “The Hampton’s”, with pool views that consisted of striped black and white and green accented pillows and lake views. The Master Suite’s look was completed with a reading and lounge nook perfect for morning tea or coffee. One of my favorite features in the master suite other than the airy lighting and a reading nook, was this Driftwood 3 bladed fan by Wayfair.
An HGTV Dream home wouldn’t be complete without your very own workout room. This workout room, wasn’t your average in-home workout room. This room included in-home exercise and equipment, with a treadmill from Nordic Track. The floors in this space, were cork, which are great for absorbing sound, when using free-weights.
My absolute favorite room in the house, was the formal living room and sunporch. I loved how light and airy the room was. The light and airiness came from windows that flanked each side of the fireplace, with the light sky blue and white grasscloth wallpaper. The focal point of this room was the grand white brick fireplace, and the marsh and pool views.
I love Brian’s mix of modern and traditional elements in the room. One of my favorite modern pieces in this room included white canvases, with screw artwork, literally artwork made of metal screws to form a picture of the the marsh grass and a coastal bird wading in the water.
I loved the bold navy blue and white striped rug that tied in this plush velvet sofa and modern brown leather chairs. Totally not expected, but so refreshing and a nice suprise! I wanted to move into this room for sure!
