My trip to Las Vegas, Nevada and Why traveling is important for the Creative Entrepreneur.
People always ask me where I get my inspiration from, regarding my designs. It’s from the places I go to the beautiful things I see. My brain is like a sponge honestly, and I’m constantly soaking up every waking moment.
The past couple of weeks, let’s just be honest I started to feel mega-burn-out with my creative juices. I had to focus on such a huge project it was literally taking all of my energy! And although it was good energy and exciting energy (big projects come with large amounts of paper work!) I’ve noticed this happens during a high peak season not just with me, but with my fellow creatives as well in our industry. So what do we do as creatives when going through this?! Well, I’m not sure about everyone one else, but for the most part there’s a couple of things I’ve noticed that helps with burn-out.
So you may be asking, how do I help combat Mega-Burn Out! Well…here’s what’s been helping:
1. Detox from Social Media at Least 1 Day out of the week!
Yes, detox from Social Media at least 1 day out of the week. On the day you choose to detox, meditate and think of a place you recently traveled and what inspired you about this space. I’ve been choosing to give up more social media intentionally (hence my Media-Free Mondays) not just for Lent, but so I can focus on “escaping” mentally on Mondays so my mind can explore and dream. I feel it’s so important to break away every once in a while from our every day mundane tasks to look at things from a different perspective. Typically business owners are so used to running the back end of their businesses (like me) it’s sometimes hard to step outside and look at your business from a different point of view. The main goal by all means is break up your repetitious cycle! What I found to be quite interesting to, is most creative entrepreneurs go through mega burn-out for multiple reasons…Burn-out meaning feeling uninspired and etc.
2. Travel Or Experience Something New!
Well, since I can’t travel for the next two weeks due to this massive, yet exciting wedding, I’m at least going to travel in my mind. Today I’m Re-visiting a place I once had a warped view about… (yes, you know you were thinking it too, gambling, strippers, boobs hanging out all over the place) but since I traveled to Las Vegas, Nevada, a couple of months ago, my perspective changed a bit. Perhaps it was the crepes, no really they were that good) or the euphoria of flying somewhere new… You see for a creativepreneur (a creative entrepreneur) it’s important for us to constantly, experience something new! So my new this trip was designing + styling a Vintage Elopement in Vegas…and of course while there, I had to eat and see the sites!
No really, Las Vegas was so much more than boobs and strippers…I mean yes don’t get me wrong you may see a couple of girls, but it wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought…or perhaps I was just so focused on the beauty of the city lights, and the transformation of the buildings. Every where you turned it was as if you were in a different country. There were so many to name a few, Paris, and
Two of my absolute favorite things to do when traveling is one, visit all of the must-sees in the area, and two, eat at all of the fun places I can’t eat at and experience when I come home.
Some of my favorite places to eat while in vegas are:
- Breakfast: La Creperie, The Juice Standard
- Lunch or Dinner: Holsteins, Beauty & Essex

Well, there’s really so much to see, honestly! But if your staying in the city like we did and you’ve walked through Paris, The Bellagio, The Cosmopolitan, once then you’ve seen it a million times. They should definitely be on your to see list, but since we had walked up and down the strip several times, the next thing on our agenda was Red Rock Canyon!
So me and the photog, (which just happened to be a good friend of mine on this trip) rented a car from Enterprise. Yall, they gave me a convertible (LOL!) This chick that’s had over 10 speeding tickets and my licensee revoked for going 24 miles over…(this happened years ago of course)..but yes, I love to drive fast, gave me a convertible. Let’s just say the drive was to much fun, weaving in and out of the mountains and “gunning it” a time or to pretending I was in the Daytona 500.
You guys, Red Rock was simply breathtaking! I’m so glad we decided to go. We don’t get these kind of colors along the east coast! The Vibrant reds, oranges, shades of green, the different textures and foliage from the Joshua trees to the mini cacti that grow naturally all over the place. I really could have stayed there for hours. For a minute, we stood on the tallest peak and just breathed in the beauty! I simply thought for a moment, how can people look at the beauty that’s given to us and not believe there’s a God! ” Genisis 1: 1, ” In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth!”
3. Leaving home allows work-a-holics like me to totally or (almost) should I say break away from working…unless your like me where you travel with work most of the time. In the case you travel for work, pick 1-2 days or longer to say and focus on something that you want to do or would enjoy doing and just do it! The reward will far surpass the investment!
So for all of you Creativepreneeurs out there, what do you do to constantly be inspired? I’m curious! Obviously traveling isn’t always an option due to our peak seasons.
